According to the intelligence service, the Kremlin tried to destroy the life support infrastructure of the region.

“The security service has established the location of the fragments of the Russian ballistic missile, which the enemy used to hit the Lviv region on the night of January 9, 2026. According to preliminary information, the discovered components belong to the Oreshnik missile complex,” the SBU said in a statement.
In particular, among the found: stabilization and guidance unit (in fact, these are the “brains” of the rocket), spare parts from the engine installation, fragments of the orientation mechanism and nozzles from the platform of the breeding unit.
The SBU emphasized that the relevant wreckage has the status of physical evidence and is being prepared to be handed over for in-depth examinations.
Investigators qualify the use of these weapons on civilian infrastructure as a war crime (Article 438 of the Criminal Code). According to preliminary data, the enemy launched an Oreshnik medium-range surface-to-surface missile from the Russian Kapustin Yar range.
“Having attacked the civilian objects of our state near the border with the European Union, the Kremlin tried to destroy the life support infrastructure of the region in the conditions of a sharp deterioration of weather conditions,” the department emphasized.
Currently, investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the event, as well as the organizers and perpetrators of the specified war crime of the Russian Federation in order to bring them to justice.
A new strike by OreshnikWe will remind you that on January 9, the Russian army struck the Lviv region with an “Oreshnyk” ballistic missile. There was a moment of attack on one of the objects in the network. The footage shows a series of loud and consecutive explosions – the impact was recorded by video surveillance cameras near the attacked object.
The mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy said that he received information from the Air Force about the attack on the city with a ballistic missile, but did not specify the name. At the same time, he noted that the air target was moving along a ballistic trajectory at an extremely high speed – about 13,000 km/h. The mayor emphasized that this was the first case of the use of this type of weapon in Lviv during the full-scale war.
