Details: Representatives of various sectors are participating in the strike: teachers, employees of public transport, railways, airports, employees of security services, prison guards, porters, firefighters, postmen and utility workers.
City transport practically does not function; out of every three intercity trains and buses, only one will go on the routes.
Brussels Airlines has warned of possible flight cancellations due to a strike at the Brussels airport.
“This demonstration risks having a significant impact, in particular on the baggage handling companies at Brussels Airport, which is why the airport authorities have asked us to preemptively cancel a significant number of flights,” Brussels Airlines explained in a press release.
The police recommend refraining from traveling in Brussels by car due to expected heavy traffic jams. The city center will be closed for the protest.
The reason for the protests is the plans to reduce the social spending of the budget by three billion euros per year.
“The new conditions of pension provision provide for a reduction of payments by 300-800 euros per month and an extension of the work experience for 11 years,” said the representative of the trade unions.
