In the village of Novosilky, Fastiv district, a man received a gunshot wound to the head while returning home with his dog. The assailant opened fire and fled, but the police apprehended him a few hours later. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years for attempted murder. It is reported National Police of Ukraine.

The police received a report from medics about a man with a head injury. According to law enforcement officers, a 36-year-old local resident was returning home after walking his dog, when an unknown person fired two shots and disappeared. Shell casings and a bullet were found at the scene, which were sent for examination.

Following a “hot pursuit”, the perpetrator was exposed by employees of the Main Police Department of the Kyiv region and the Fastiv District Department with the support of the KORD special unit. He turned out to be a 39-year-old native of the Donetsk region. “During the search, a silenced pistol, ammunition, methadone pills and mobile phones were seized,” law enforcement officers said. The man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility.

Investigators informed him of the suspicion of a completed attempted murder for selfish motives and to order, as well as for illegal handling of weapons (Part 2 of Article 15, Paragraph 6, 11 of Part 2 of Article 115, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The police are currently identifying the mastermind of the crime and possible accomplices. “We are working to ensure that all those involved in this attempt are brought to justice,” said the Fastiv District Prosecutor’s Office.
