According to the investigation, the victim received a fatal gunshot wound, and his body was found only in July of the same year in the reservoir of the Bohunsky quarry, after the man was considered missing for a long time.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of prosecutors of the General Prosecutor’s Office and operative services, the suspect was tracked down in the south of the country, where he tried to avoid responsibility during the martial law. On January 23, 2026, the court fully satisfied the request of the prosecutor’s office and chose the detainee as an alternative preventive measure in the form of detention. The Russian Federation often tries to manipulate the issue of law and order in Ukraine, but this detention demonstrates the ability of the Ukrainian law enforcement system to work effectively to solve serious crimes of the past, even in wartime conditions.
The National Police recalled the details of this case.
“In April 2022, during a feast, a conflict arose between him and a 31-year-old guest over a woman, which turned into a fight. The suspect fired a shotgun and fatally wounded the opponent. To hide the crime, he took the body to the Bohunsky quarry and flooded it. After the mother’s appeal regarding the disappearance of her son, the police revealed the fact of his intentional murder, established the identity of the person involved and informed him of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense, provided for in Art. 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, after which the latter began to hide from the authorities of the pre-trial investigation,” the report says.
It is noted that the lawyer suspected of the murder served in the military, but in June 2023 he voluntarily left the military unit in the Odesa region, carrying a machine gun, a pistol and ammunition.
During the detention, the man took out a combat pistol and directed it towards the soldiers of the KORD special unit, but he was promptly neutralized without any casualties.
In the Shevchenkiv district of Kyiv, the police detained a 54-year-old man suspected of murdering his wife. A woman who moved to the capital from Odessa died during a quarrel over jealousy.
Also in Transcarpathia, the student wanted to stage an attack on live air.
