It is noted that the defense asked the court to close the case due to the fact that it “could prevent the president from fulfilling his powers as the head of the executive power.” Trump’s lawyers also tried to prove that, according to the Supreme Court’s decision, he has presidential immunity against similar criminal prosecutions.

However, the Themis official rejected both arguments, saying that the fact of the crime related to Trump’s personal, not official, actions, so he was not immune. And the sentence allegedly “will not affect the work of the executive power.”

We will remind

In May, Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to paying porn star Stormy Daniels to cover up the scandal. The sentencing was originally scheduled for the summer, but Trump pushed for it to be postponed twice. After the election victory, experts suggested that the sentencing would most likely be delayed until the end of his presidential term.

In November, Judge Juan Merchan postponed the sentencing of Donald Trump indefinitely. Trump’s lawyers were given time until December 2 to justify the request to close the case.
