We will remind:
- On December 18, it became known that the Supreme Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and the newly elected head of the Servant of the People party Oleksandr Kornienko can lead the parliamentary working group on referendum and election issues, the creation of which is initiated by the leader of the faction Davyd Arahamia.
- On December 11, the Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Kornienko, stated that currently the Rada does not have any “drafts” or legislative initiatives regarding the holding of elections during martial law.
- US President Donald Trump believes that “the time has come” for Ukraine to hold presidential elections. Zelensky reacted to this reprimand and said that he is “always ready.”
- He also stated that international partners should ensure security during the elections. Zelensky himself is ready for changes in the legislation on elections during martial law.
- Subsequently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with representatives of the Verkhovna Rada the possibility of holding elections for the head of state in warring Ukraine and now expects that the deputies will “offer him their vision.”
