A drone filled with explosives hit a private house in Sokilnyky, Lviv Oblast. As a result of the incident, investigators opened criminal proceedings for attempted murder.
Valery Veremchuk, a member of the Lviv City Council from the Varta party, said that the incident had signs of an internal criminal “showdown” and not an enemy attack.
“The most terrible thing is that this, it seems, is not an action of the enemy, but a consequence of an internal “showdown” or a “warning” that someone decided to implement with the help of a combat drone,” the deputy said.
“It’s a miracle that no one was hurt. But the very fact that someone dared to do such a thing goes beyond all limits. Society cannot perceive this as “another incident”. If today a drone flies into a house because of a conflict, tomorrow it can fly into any residence,” he added, noting that the explosion at 4 a.m. destroyed the roof and several rooms of the house.
“I woke up from the explosions, looked to see if the windows were broken and went to bed, because there was no alarm,” said local resident Iryna.
The police confirmed that no one was injured, but the roof, facade and several residential premises were damaged. Specialized services are available on site.
“The police immediately started an investigation into the fact of attempted murder. Primary investigative and operational measures are ongoing. We are establishing the type of drone, the route of its movement and the persons who may be involved”, – emphasized the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhivskyi, adding that the incident demonstrates the need to update the legislation on the use of UAVs.
“This is the protection of Ukrainian citizens, which should become the norm in the post-war period. Drones will remain a part of our everyday life, so their use must be controlled and safe,” he said.
Deputy of the Lviv City Council Ihor Zinkevich said that, according to preliminary information, the drone hit the house of entrepreneurs Natalia and Armen Kovaliv. According to him, Natalia Koval is the co-founder of the farm, the owner of a house and plots of land in Sokilnyky and Sudova Vyshna, and her husband rents 0.7 hectares of land with a lake for fishing needs.
