After the end of the war and the opening of the borders, mass departure of Ukrainians abroad is not expected. Ella Libanova, director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research named after Mykhailo Ptukh of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, predicts that the majority of women currently living in Ukraine will remain. Instead, some men will potentially migrate.
Ella Libanova told about this in the “Orestocracy” program.
The expert believes that mostly men whose families have already settled abroad will migrate. If the wife has socialized, works, has housing and friends, and children go to educational institutions, husbands can choose family reunification. This especially applies to those who do not have their own home or stable job in Ukraine.
According to Libanova, women who wanted to leave Ukraine because of the war had already done so before. Those who remain are unlikely to dare to move now, as the conditions for refugees abroad have deteriorated significantly, and the assistance that Ukrainian women received in 2022 has been reduced or completely stopped.
Meanwhile, in Transcarpathia, the number of ethnic Hungarians has halved in three years of full-scale war. Before the war, there were 150,000 of them.
We will remind that in Ukraine more than a third of enterprises are managed by women.
