In Russia’s Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Ukrainian citizen Serhiy Kuris to 16 years in a high-security prison on charges of espionage, receiving training for terrorist activities and participating in a terrorist community, Mediazona reported on November 12.

Kuris lived in Kharkiv, but used to come to occupied Donetsk, where his family was. Four days later, security forces searched his apartment, seized all equipment and documents, including the passport of a citizen of Ukraine. According to RFE/RL, in September 2019, he was detained by employees of the so-called “department for combating organized crime” from the structure of the “DPR” group – it happened near his home while he was walking with his wife and child.

Kuris was present during the search, he was severely beaten. In a letter that he managed to deliver to one of the released prisoners in December 2019, the man said that he was beaten, tortured with electric shocks, hung on the “end” in the pre-trial detention center, cigarettes were put out on his body, and he was given to drink only once a day. All this happened on the territory of a secret prison.

“And the investigator, a certain Petrov, said so bluntly in confirmation of my thoughts: “Everything is like under Stalin, we will take away all your property, freedom, shoot you, and if you do not sign a confession – you will watch how your wife will be on the “diba” ! And so six days lasted for me, like six years of war in my native city, and for eight months I have been sitting in terrible captivity and waiting for rescue from my native Ukraine, to which I and those like me have remained loyal to the end! Glory to Ukraine!” – he wrote in his letter.

In September, a court in occupied Crimea sentenced a Ukrainian citizen to 14 years in a strict regime prison in a case of espionage for Ukraine. According to Mediazona, Mykhailo Sukhachev falls under the initials published by the agency, MA Sukhachev. According to the version of the investigation, Sukhachev transmitted to Ukraine data on the work of anti-aircraft missile units of the Russian army in the territory of the partially occupied Zaporizhzhia region.
