A cache of weapons and drugs were found with the shooter who killed four police officers in the village of Nekhvoroshch of the Cherkasy district during a special operation.

The tragic event occurred on January 27, 2026, when operatives tried to establish the involvement of a local resident in a serious crime committed last year. Seeing the policemen, the man born in 1967 fled to the forest, taking an automatic weapon with him, and took up defense there.
During the search, the intruder opened fire on the special forces, as a result of which four soldiers were fatally wounded on the spot. The fifth participant of the operation was hospitalized, now doctors are providing him with the necessary assistance. The attacker was eliminated during return fire. During the search of the apartment of the murdered man, law enforcement officers found a whole arsenal: a safe with automatic weapons, ammunition, grenades, as well as about four kilograms of drugs.
Currently, investigators and forensic experts continue to work at the scene to establish all the circumstances of the incident. The Main Department of the National Police of the Cherkasy region expressed their condolences to the families of the fallen colleagues. The pre-trial investigation continues under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, law enforcement officers are checking possible connections of the liquidated criminal with other criminal groups.
In the Cherkasy region, during a special operation to detain a man wanted for murder, he opened fire on law enforcement officers. The shooter was a former military man.
