45-year-old Ukrainian professional boxer Vitaly Rusal, who was the IBO Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion, died at the front in a battle with the Russian occupiers.

The athlete’s coach Oleksandr Lichter reported on the tragedy on Facebook.

Vitaly Rusal hails from Zaporizhzhia, performed as a cruiserweight, boxing in an orthodox stance. He made his debut in the professional ring on February 28, 2003, and at an early stage of his career he worked with K2 East Promotions, a promotion company associated with the Klitschko brothers.

In 2008, Rusal achieved one of the main successes of his career, winning the IBO Intercontinental title in the first heavyweight. He later managed to defend this belt with a successful fight in Zaporizhzhia, which became an important moment for his reputation in the international arena.

Rusal suffered the first defeat in his professional career in 2009, when he lost to the German Marko Huk in the fight for the title of European champion. After that, the Ukrainian boxer continued to perform, holding fights in Ukraine and abroad, in particular in Poland, until the early 2010s. Ended his career in 2012 after three consecutive defeats.

During his professional career, Rusal won 27 fights, 19 by knockout, and lost four times.
