Prehistory:

  • On January 22, UP sources reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are conducting searches of the ex-head of the State Border Service Serhii Deinek.
  • Later, the Anti-corruption authorities announced the disclosure of a scheme of systematic bribery of top officials of the State Border Service of Ukraine. As part of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that in 2023, with the assistance of State Border Service officials, a group of people organized the illegal transportation of cigarettes across the state border of Ukraine to the EU.
  • On January 30, the High Anti-Corruption Court ordered Deinek to take a preventive measure – a bail of 10 million.
  • A bail of 2 million UAH was applied to the head of the checkpoint department of the State Border Service (Olexandr Marushchak -ed.). According to the UP, the prosecutor asked for 16 million bail for Deinek. Both suspects were also charged with appropriate procedural duties.
