Details: The accident happened on Friday, January 3, around 5 p.m. The driver of the minibus hit the boy at the pedestrian crossing, and then fled the scene.

A soldier who witnessed the accident provided first aid to the teenager. The boy was handed over to medics alive, but later he died in the hospital.

On January 6, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office reported that the dead boy was a 14-year-old Ukrainian.

“The victim is a citizen of Ukraine. The assailant is a citizen of Poland. After the crime, the suspect hid a minibus on the outskirts of Warsaw. There he consumed alcohol with one of his family members,” Piotr Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, said during a press conference.

When asked by a Radio Liberty correspondent whether the dead boy was a Ukrainian with temporary protection, the spokesman said that it would become known the next day, when investigators talk to the dead man’s mother.

43-year-old driver Andrzej K. detained the following for after the accident, on Saturday, January 4, in a state of alcohol intoxication. He works in a courier service. The prosecutor’s office says that he already had convictions, in particular, for possession of drugs, as well as for helping foreigners to cross the border illegally.

The driver is charged with two counts of causing a fatal accident and fleeing the scene, which carries a prison sentence of 5 to 20 years.

At the beginning of December, a 45-year-old driver with weapons and drugs was detained in Warsaw after a chase.

In Germany, a truck driver who caused a series of road accidents with more than 20 victims and damaged half a hundred cars was arrested after a chase.
