Details: According to a survey conducted by the Verian sociological company, commissioned by the Danish newspaper Berlingske, only 6% of the Greenlanders stand for joining the United States.
At the same time, 85% opposed to become part of the United States.
Another 9% did not decide.
The survey also showed that almost half of the Greenlanders see Trump’s increased interest.
Earlier this month, US President Trump said Greenland is vital for US security and that Denmark should refuse to control the strategically important Arctic Island.
And on the weekend, Trump said on board Air Force One that: “I think we will receive it,” adding that 57,000 inhabitants of the Arctic Island “want to be with us”.
The publication reminds that the US military already has a permanent presence on the space base of Pituffion in Northwest of Greenland, which is a strategic place for the early warning of ballistic missiles.
Greenland Prime Minister Mota Aege, who has intensified the struggle for independence, has repeatedly stated that the island is not sold and that it is the people who should decide their future.
The world’s largest island with a population of 57,000 people received wide self -government in 2009, including the right to declare independence from Denmark in a referendum.
