Atlético come to this meeting in high spirits after beating Levante (4:2) in the championship. However, the path of the “lions” in the current draw of the Cup was thorny: a dramatic victory over Valencia in the quarter-finals (2:1) was snatched only in the sixth added minute thanks to the goal of Ignacy Williams. In the Cup, San Sebastian’s path was also difficult – a victory over Alaves (3:2) and a series of penalties in the match with Osasuna. Unlike their opponents, Sociedad have won this trophy only twice in their history, so the motivation to play in the final again is extremely high. The last time these teams met in the league ended in a 1-1 draw, with Bilbao only escaping in the 88th minute, which only underlines the uncompromising nature of this derby.
The personnel situation in both camps is difficult. Athletic won’t be able to count on the injured Berenger and Vivian, while Yuri Berchiche and Paredes are also out. Real Sociedad suffered a serious loss in Luka Suchic, as well as the absence of Takefusa Kubo and Arsene Sakharyan due to injuries.
