The management of Sunderland, realizing the high demand for quality goalkeepers and the paying capacity of potential buyers, decided to play big. The club is ready to let go of its main goalkeeper for only about 60 million euros.
Such a price tag puts Rufs on par with the most expensive goalkeepers in football history. For the Black Cats, this transfer can become an incredibly profitable business operation: Rufs moved to the English club only in 2025 from the Dutch NEC for 10.5 million euros.
Sunderland have a strong negotiating position, as the player’s contract runs until mid-2030. In the current season of the Premier League, the 23-year-old Dutchman is showing a solid game: in 24 matches, he conceded 26 goals, and in 8 matches he kept a clean sheet, which attracted the attention of the giants of English football.
