The head coach of French Lyon, Paulo Fonseca, shared his opinion about the transfer of Ukrainian forward Roman Yaremchuk.

“Roman is a real striker, very strong in the box. We didn’t have a player with those characteristics. Pavel Schulz doesn’t quite fit the role, Endrik can handle it, but Roman will be important against teams that defend deep. With him, we will have more tactical options,” said Fonseca.

The Portuguese specialist added that competition among strikers is a positive factor for the team:

“We have more opportunities with Pavel, Roman and Endrik. It creates competition and it strengthens the team.”

As a reminder, Yaremchuk joined Lyon on a six-month loan from Olympiakos for 1.5 million euros, with an option to buy for 5 million. In the current season, the Ukrainian played 16 matches in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist.

Lyon is fourth in Ligue 1 and directly qualified for the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. The team will play its next match on February 4 against Laval in the French Cup.
