“We showed character to get back into the game. There were times when we had to defend – they force you to defend the box and it’s difficult at times, but I always thought we could score,” Carrick told Sky Sports.
“We’ve only just started, it’s only been 10 days and we understand it won’t be perfect. It’s just the beginning, a good starting point, but we need to add new elements to our game in the coming weeks.”
“Yes, I’m incredibly proud. I think this game was different from the one last week – two completely different matches. Today everything should have gone differently at first. The opponent put a lot of pressure on us in different ways.”
“Maybe today we didn’t have the constant and obvious threat in front of the other team’s goal throughout the game like last week, but at times we looked really dangerous. To come here and score three goals in that style is something. To lose 0-1, come back, then get hit again and still keep going forward – it was a huge moment for us,” the coach added.
After this match, Manchester United climbed to the fourth place in the Premier League standings with 38 points.
