What did we achieve during the meeting with President Trump?

The President of the United States reaffirmed strong security guarantees. All the details that we have worked out before: our technical groups, the negotiating – on the details of the security guarantees – he confirmed them and confirmed that they will be voted on in the Congress of the United States of America. This is a very strong arrangement.

Second: we talked about a package of support for Ukraine for reconstruction after the end of the war. Economy package. This is a measure of American business, special conditions for the development and restoration of Ukraine, and the development of a free trade agreement with the United States of America. The US President also confirmed this.

And we are getting as close as possible to another result in the 20-point plan.

We spoke as a team, and yesterday we agreed with the President of the United States of America that we will have strong security guarantees from the United States. Now it’s not forever. In the documents, it is for 15 years with the possibility of extending these security guarantees. I raised this issue with the President. I told him that the war has been going on in our country for more than a decade and that is why I would very much like the guarantees to be for a longer period. We would very much like to consider the possibility of 30, 40, 50 years, and this will then be a historic decision by President Trump. The president said the US would think.

With the American side, we developed a sequence plan: the order of actions, our strategy to move step by step, when and what we want to finalize and agree with partners.

First of all, we now want a meeting at the level of national security advisers in the coming days. Rustem Umerov has already contacted all advisers: American and European. And I think that this meeting will be in Ukraine.

Next: we will prepare all the documents at the level of advisers – and there will be a meeting at the level of European leaders, first with Ukraine in a broad composition, and this is the Coalition of the Willing Plus. And this meeting will be. I started discussing it immediately after meeting with President Trump. I have already contacted President Macron and several of our other partners and will continue these consultations.

At this meeting, we will agree on the documents at the leadership level. And we will prepare a meeting with President Trump and European leaders. We are all serious about these meetings taking place in January. And after that, if everything goes step by step, there will already be a meeting in one form or another with the “Russians”. We are ready for the appropriate formats that we have already talked about.

There is no alternative to peace. We believe with the Americans – here we have the same position – that it is necessary to end the war diplomatically, to put pressure on Russia, otherwise the war will continue. Of course, if the war continues, the Americans will continue to help Ukraine together with the Europeans, because we are defending ourselves in this war, we are fighting, we are not the aggressor.

The attitude of Russians towards the referendum is not positive, because the referendum requires a security infrastructure. This means: a ceasefire is needed, and the Russians do not want to give us a ceasefire for as many days as it takes to hold a referendum. It is 60 days. This is a very difficult issue, and Russia wants to keep pressuring us with continued war, missiles, artillery, etc. That is why we are fighting for it.

And here is also the question of the strength of these agreements – the strength of the recognition of these agreements. In Ukraine, there was a Budapest memorandum, signed by personalities – it did not work. Then there were the Minsk agreements, which led to a full-scale war. All these papers did not work. We have now agreed with the Americans that we will have security guarantees that will be supported by the US Congress, which is very important, and the Ukrainian Parliament. Security guarantees will be voted bilaterally. And our bilateral agreements with the Europeans, accordingly, will then be confirmed in the European parliaments so that these agreements have force.

And we believe that the 20-point plan should be approved in a referendum. This is the strongest historical signature of the power of this document, and I would very much like to do it. Of course, not everyone is positive about it. Because this definitely leads to the open manifestation of will of not one person, not 450 people. This is about millions of people.

It is very important that this is a manifestation of the will of the Ukrainian people, that the Ukrainian nation accepts this peace and supports this plan. Therefore, a referendum is a powerful thing. Ukrainians, who suffered more than anyone else in this war, should be happy about the end of this war and the format of this agreement. This is about a just peace.

As for leaving Donbas: it is not news that Russia wants it. In their rosy dreams – that we should not be on the territory of our country at all. These dreams have been around for more than a year. But we have our own land, our territorial integrity, our state and our interests. We will act in accordance with the interests of Ukraine.

We are interested in Russia giving us money and in reparations. It is important for us to get money to rebuild our state. And reparation loans – we have already decided all this with the Europeans, because most of the frozen assets are there. Glad they supported our position. We will receive the first 100 billion in the next two years in equal tranches. If there is no war, we will spend this money on the restoration of our state. If we have to defend ourselves, then there is something to buy this protection.

Now there have been very dangerous statements from Russia, which are obviously aimed at disrupting all the achievements of our joint work with President Trump’s team. We work together to bring peace closer.

Now the Russians have concocted an obviously fake story about some kind of strike on some residence of the Russian dictator, so that they have an excuse to continue to strike Ukraine, particularly to strike Kiev, and also to refuse to take the necessary steps to end the war. A typical lying tactic of the Russians. All the more so because they have already beaten Kyiv, in particular the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Ukraine does not take steps that could weaken diplomacy. Russia always takes such steps. This is one of the many things that sets us apart.

It is important that the world is not silent now and that the Russians do not disrupt the movement towards peace.
