Leeds produced one of the most convincing first halves of the season, completely outscoring Crystal Palace before the break. The hosts immediately imposed a high tempo, bet on standard positions, while the Londoners could not find an answer for a long time and could not keep up with the movement of the opponent.
In the 38th minute, Calvert-Lewin was first to react to a rebound off a save by Henderson to open the scoring, continuing his scoring streak. Crystal Palace tried to counter-attack, had a few half-moments, including Nketiah’s strike, but spent most of their time on the defensive.
In stoppage time of the first half, Leeds scored another goal. Again a long out, a header and Calvert-Lewin made it 2:0 from a few meters away.
The key moment of the second half came in the 60th minute. Another standard was again a sentence for the guests: after a commotion in the penalty area, Ampadu managed to be the first and brought the score to a crushing 3:0.
Leeds could have scored more, with Calvert-Lewin close to a hat-trick, Streak forcing Henderson to display top-level reaction and Ampadu’s long runs continued to keep the visitors’ defense under constant tension. In the 2nd additional minute, Crystal Palace scored one goal, but it did not help to save the match.
