The parties reached an agreement on the early termination of the contract, so the 41-year-old footballer received the status of a free agent and can sign an agreement with a new club without any obstacles. Silva returned to Fluminense in mid-2024 and has been the team’s captain ever since.
During this period, the experienced center back played 46 matches in all competitions, scoring four goals and one assist. Transfermarkt currently estimates the player’s value at 600,000 euros.
Family circumstances were the main reason for Thiago Silva’s departure. The football player’s wife and children live in London, where his sons play for the Chelsea academy, and the eldest of them signed his first professional contract in the second half of 2025. The defender himself does not plan to end his career and is considering options for continuing his performances in Europe, preferably closer to Great Britain.
The management of Fluminense tried to convince Silva to stay, appealing to the team’s participation in the Copa Libertadores and the proximity of the 2026 World Cup, but an agreement could not be reached. The club from Rio de Janeiro will now work to find a replacement for the central defender position in the winter transfer window.
