PSG won the Intercontinental Cup, defeating Flamengo in the final, which took place in Al Rayyan (Qatar). The main and extra time ended with the score 1:1, and the fate of the trophy was decided by a series of penalties, which raised many questions.

In the post-match penalty shootout, Parisien goalkeeper Matvii Safonov saved four of five shots from Flamengo players, but the way in which it was done became the subject of active discussions. Replays show that during one of the penalty kicks, the goalkeeper stepped forward even before the shot, although according to the rules, he must remain on the goal line until the player takes the shot.

Despite the obvious doubts about the correctness of the goalkeeper’s actions, the referees did not stop the streak and did not call a timeout. For the Brazilian club, only Nicolas De La Cruz managed to convert his attempt, while PSG needed two well-placed strikes to win the series 2-1.
