The leader of the third division gave a fight to the representative of the EPL, but the class of the Londoners played a decisive role at the end of the match.

In the quarter-finals of the English League Cup, Cardiff City, which confidently leads the standings of the third division, hosted London’s Chelsea.

The hosts tried to impose a fight on the favorite and for a long time kept the intrigue in the confrontation.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the 57th minute — Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of the moment in the penalty area and put the visitors ahead. However, Cardiff managed to respond: in the 75th minute, David Turnbull restored the balance with a header after a pass from the wing and made the stadium explode with emotions.

The end of the meeting was up to the Londoners. In the 82nd minute, Pedro Netu returned Chelsea’s advantage with a precise shot, and already in the time compensated by the referee, the aforementioned Garnacho scored a double and removed all questions about the winner.

As a result, Chelsea won 3-1 and progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, while Cardiff City exit the tournament having put up a worthy resistance to one of English football’s giants.
