The young Englishman, who suffered a nasty injury in last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Bournemouth, will be able to recover sooner than the coaching staff feared.
Delap was forced off the field less than half an hour into the match after falling on his shoulder. At first, the situation looked critical, and head coach Enzo Maresca did not hide his concern, saying after the game that the injury looked pretty bad.
However, the medical examination brought good news. According to The Telegraph, no fracture was found in Delap. He is expected to be able to recover within three to four weeks. This means that the forward is likely to be fully ready to return to action as early as 2026.
Enzo Maresca himself confirmed this diagnosis before the Champions League match against Atalanta:
“Fortunately, Liam does not have a fracture. We know that he needs game practice to get in shape, but unfortunately he is out again. We are trying to find a solution,” the coach emphasized.
Despite the optimistic forecast, Delap will miss Chelsea’s busy Christmas schedule. He will not be able to help the team in the matches against Atalanta in the Champions League, Cardiff City in the League Cup, as well as in the EPL matches against Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Bournemouth.
