“Today, as every day, we remember Diogo Zhota on the day he would have turned 29. All our thoughts, prayers and love are with his wife Rute, children, parents and all loved ones. Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20,” the statement reads.
Liverpool fixed Jota’s number 20 for life and promised to pay the player’s family the full amount of his contract. Fans continue to honor the player’s memory by singing his song at the 20th minute of every home game.
During his time with the Reds, Jota played 182 matches, scored 65 goals and helped the team win the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
