The twelfth round of the English Premier League was closed late Monday evening with a confrontation between Manchester United and Everton at Old Trafford. Teams that are close to each other in the standings this season, but still in higher places than a year ago. By the way, during this time, the head coach of the Toffees changed and David Moes returned, and the Portuguese Ruben Amorim played his first match at the head of the Red Devils exactly one year ago, so why wasn’t the reporting meeting an opportunity to sum up certain results of the host’s helmsman’s work in his position?

For the guests from Liverpool, this game started poorly, because they seemed to run to attack in the first minutes, but it quickly became clear that Seamus Coleman, who appeared in the starting line-up at times, but due to injury, had to leave the field immediately. And in the 13th minute, we witnessed absolute stupidity in the performance of the team’s midfielder Moyes Idriss Gueye, who slapped Michael Keane in a verbal battle, which did not go unnoticed by the head referee, but Everton still remained in the minority.

A greater gift for Amorim could not have been sought. Unless the guests had to “tie up” with a ribbon this package of their own failures in the form of some error in defense. But the latter was assumed by Everton in a much smaller number than the opponents expected. However, the game in the minority still began to show signs, but not immediately.

It was the opposite story here that it was the visitors who took the lead in the 29th minute when Dewsbury Hall were given space on the left wing of the free-kick to curl an accurate shot into the far corner from Garner’s cross. Needless to say, before that, United created a moment in attack only for Bruno to strike before the opposition were in the minority, and after only strikes, Dorgu and Casemiro deserved attention before the break.

In the second half, Everton expectedly came out exclusively with thoughts about playing from the defense and, as a result, the offensive performance of Moyes’ team did not change at all. But Amorim’s team tried desperately to pile on other people’s goal with flanking passes and a significant number of shots in the plane, but … Pickford. Yes, this was enough to withstand even unrealistically difficult shots, such as one of Zirkze’s head shots.

And so, under tension, the “toffees” finished this meeting on a thin note. At certain moments, Amorim’s team seemed to find the necessary attacking pace, but this activity did not last long, after which they had to retreat and enter the second round. Even in the final assault of the hosts, it was noticeable that the attack simply lacked momentum. Although the moments were really very good and the number of saves from Pickford was off the charts. The price of a “dry” match is sometimes like this.

In the next round, Manchester United will visit Crystal Palace in London, and Everton will host Newcastle.
