The 34-year-old central midfielder will soon undergo a medical, after which he will sign a contract until June 30, 2026, with an option to extend for another season.
Romeu became a free agent in September after terminating his contract with Barcelona. He played for the Catalans in the 2023/24 season, and spent the last 2024/25 campaign on loan in Girona.
Romeu spent the greatest period of his career (2015–2022) in Southampton, playing 256 matches for the team in all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists.
Southampton have had a poor start in the Championship, currently occupying the 17th line in the standings. The club fired head coach Will Still on Sunday.
