Details

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there was “heavy fighting” in the region around Manbij between Turkish-backed groups and Kurdish forces in northern Syria.

Currently, it is known that 37 people have died, mostly militants supported by Turkey.

Previously, the territory was under the control of the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, but in early December 2024, the territory was returned to the pro-Turkish group of the Syrian National Army. The latter continued their offensive to the east to regain the entire Kurdish enclave.

At least 322 people were killed in fighting in the Manbij region last month, according to the Observatory.

Position of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

On Wednesday, SDF leader Mazloum Abdi said his group supports the “unity and integrity of the Syrian territory.” At a meeting in Damascus, he called on Syria’s new Islamist rulers to “step in” to support a ceasefire across Syria.

For reference

The SDF today control large parts of northeastern Syria and parts of eastern Deir ez-Zor province, where the Kurds established an autonomous administration after the withdrawal of government forces at the start of the 2011 civil war. But neighboring Turkey views the SDF as an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has fought against the Turkish state for decades.

We will remind

UNN previously reported on a terrorist attack near the headquarters of an aerospace company in Turkey: then four people were killed, and the terrorists were neutralized.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of France announced the possibility of lifting EU sanctions regarding transactions with Syrian state institutions. The decision will depend on how the new leadership handles the transition of power.
