From the following season, UEFA is introducing a new rule on the preference of the home field in the playoff of the European Cups. According to ESPN, the innovation should strengthen the value of the results at the league stage.

In the 2024/25 season, the top 8 teams had a guaranteed right to play the 1/8 finals at home. In the quarterfinals and the semifinals, the order of the matches was determined by the lot. This reduced the value of the high space in the standings.

Starting from the new season, the match will be held at each stage of the playoff, which has taken the above place in the league stage. This rule will apply to the Champions League, the Europa League and the League of Conferences.

The decision was made by the UEFA Club Committee at a meeting before the Champions League finale and should be finally approved on August 28.
