A recent sacrifice in favor of the founder of Silk Road Road Road Road Ulbricht with a volume of 300 BTC came from a person related to Darknet platform Alphabay. About it reports Wired with reference to Chainalysis report.
The transfer came to the purse of Ulbricht on June 1, shortly after his release from prison and speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas.
The donation provoked some members of the community of suspicion of the origin of the funds. In particular, the network has been rumored that it was an attempt to “bleach” the Silk Road coins that have been hidden from confiscation.
ZachXBT cryptocurrency has found that the funds have passed through the centralized Jambler mixing service-atypical behavior for “ordinary privacy enthusiasts” that would rather take advantage of a decentralized counterpart. The detective set the addresses from which the coins were received: one was active in 2014, the other in 2019.
According to him, it was not an attempt by Ulbricht to repay his own once hidden money. However, Zachxbt noted that the coins sent are still related to illegal activities.
According to new data from Chainalysis, the funds come from another Darknet-Marketplace-Alphabay, closed by law enforcement in 2017. Analysts believe that one of the large sellers on the platform was donor.
“We have enough reason to suspect that these funds come from Alphabay. Looking on the amount, we can assume that they got from someone who may have been a supplier on Alphabay at the beginning [діяльності платформи]”, – explained the director of Chainalysis Investigation Phil Larratt.
At the time of closure, the platform processed transactions for about $ 2 million daily. Among the goods were prohibited drugs, harmful software, stolen data and more. Alphabay founder Alexander Kazes died in Bangkok prison. The next person in the hierarchy, known only by Nick Desnake, probably still remains freedom.
