Spanish head coach Xabi Alonso managed to take Bayer Leverkusen to a qualitatively new level, and as a result, the club collected all the accolades within its reach on the domestic stage last season, and started the new campaign with a victory in the German Super Cup and a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Obviously, this success would be impossible to imagine without 43-year-old Alonso, so the “pharmacists” ensured the extension of the contract with the driver at the end of last season.

However, at that time the Spaniard was informed that in case of receiving an offer from Real Madrid, Xabi’s former club during his playing career, the Germans would consider terminating the contract and further transfer.

But so far, there has been no such invitation, as reported by Bayer’s chief executive officer, Fernando Carro.

“We assume he will stay. There is no indication of another scenario. We maintain a very close and trusting relationship with Xabi, his family and his agent.

His contract will last another year and a half. As always, he is involved in all processes and planning, even while the season is on pause,” said the Spanish official.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga standings and are five points behind Bayern Munich.
