He made 19 appearances for England and was a member of the national team that won the 1966 World Cup.
The attacking midfielder played for Newcastle, Arsenal and Stoke City. During his professional career, he played a total of 545 matches and scored 81 goals.
George Eastham was involved in the 1963 trial, which resulted in a major reform of the British transfer market. It allowed to expand the freedom of players in the matter of transfers between clubs.
Eastham became the 19th player to die from England’s World Cup-winning team. Currently, only three people remain alive from that championship team: Ian Callaghan, Terry Payne and the hero of the 1966 World Cup final Geoffrey Hurst.
