Former Portuguese central defender Pepe Ferreira ended his professional career this summer at the age of 41.

A few days earlier, the contribution of the experienced performer to the development of football in Portugal was recognized by the local Football Federation during the presentation of the Quinas de Ouro awards.

“I want to thank Portugal for accepting and integrating me so well. Obviously, it changed my life.

I have always tried to do my best to repay the favor of the Portuguese people, to respect the principles of Portugal and its humble, hardworking and noble people.

I always tried to do my best, and yes, I wasn’t perfect, but I played from the heart, giving everything I had to honor my country. I understand the doubts in the beginning, but I never doubted my feelings and duty. I tried to do my best on the field and respect the principles of life in this country,” said the ex-footballer.

During his career, Pepe played 737 matches, scored 42 goals and provided 36 assists.
