Ukrainians actively accumulate large denomination bills.
The press service of the National Bank of Ukraine reported that the number of banknotes in denominations of 10 and 5 hryvnias decreased by 15% and 11%, respectively. These bills are withdrawn from circulation, because they are replaced by coins of the appropriate denomination.
At the same time, the demand for 1,000 hryvnia banknotes is growing in Ukraine, which is a consequence of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. The fact is that in such conditions people prefer large denominations for savings.
According to the NBU, the most in circulation are 500-hryvnia banknotes, 10-kopeck coins, and the least are 50-hryvnia banknotes and 10-hryvnia coins.
Which bills are withdrawn from circulationThe National Bank of Ukraine announced that starting November 1, 2024, the NBU, together with other banks, gradually began withdrawing 50 and 200 hryvnia banknotes from circulation. These are old-style banknotes issued in 2003-2007.
The withdrawn banknotes will be disposed of, and their place will be taken by banknotes of a similar denomination of a new model, it refers to hryvnias issued since 2014.
