Details: The president also emphasized the importance of Europe also having a voice, “because Europe will look at us and at Trump.”
He drew attention to the fact that all European leaders always ask Zelensky about his conversations or meetings with Trump.
Zelensky emphasized: if the American leader offers strong security guarantees for Ukraine, then after that there can be a conversation with the Russians. “And that’s exactly how the three of them sat down, not just at once,” he emphasized.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president suggested that Trump may find himself in a difficult political situation if he achieves a ceasefire without providing Ukraine with adequate security guarantees.
In his opinion, this may resemble the situation in which Zelensky found himself in 2019.
“Don’t wait for Putin’s wishes. Make him do what is needed to end the war – that’s important,” the Ukrainian president concluded.
It is worth noting that during the election campaign, Trump repeatedly flaunted his good relations with the head of the Kremlin. He also repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if elected.
What happened before:
- Putin recently said during an annual press conference for the media that he is “ready” for potential talks with Trump.
- And Trump said on December 23 that the ruler of Russia expressed a desire to meet with him as soon as possible to discuss the war in Ukraine.
