“We need to ask Russia, Ukraine is ready to negotiate,” said the American leader, repeating his pre-election thesis that “this war would not have started” if he were the US president at the time of the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“I had good relations with (President of the Russian Federation Volodymyr) Putin, I was sure that he would not attack Ukraine. And then, when I was not the president, a lot of bad things happened – someone said something bad to someone, all kinds of stupid things happened, and then bombs started falling on Ukrainian cities, and many people died. In reality, many more people die than reported in the news… Entire cities are destroyed, huge buildings are simply destroyed by bombs and rockets, and when you are told on the news that only one person is affected, in reality, many people die in every attack… For me, this is the most important thing, soldiers are aiming missiles and drones at each other, we see photos from the battlefield, and those photos from the battlefield that I saw, no one in the world wants to see, they are terrible.” Trump said (ed.: no one has yet accused the Ukrainian authorities of concealing the number of civilian casualties – although official reports about losses among the Ukrainian military are received extremely infrequently, and after individual shelling or battles, accurate data about losses in the Defense Forces of Ukraine are not reported).
The US president expressed hope that China “will be able to help stop the war in Ukraine.”
“I would like to meet with President Putin soon and end the war,” Donald Trump also repeated.
A day earlier, on January 22, on his own Truth Social social network, Trump said that he “loves the Russian people” and that Putin should “stop this senseless war.”
“If we don’t make a deal soon, I will have no choice but to impose high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions on everything Russia sells to the United States and other countries that join us. Let’s end this war that would never have started if I were president! We can make it good or bad – and good is always better. It’s time to come to an agreement. No more lives must be lost!” – added the head of the American state.
The other day, the CNN channel, citing sources, reported that Trump instructed his aides to arrange a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to them, the US president wants to talk to the Russian president in the first days after the inauguration to discuss a personal meeting. It is claimed that Trump is expected to quickly start work on the settlement of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
After the inauguration, US President Donald Trump said that he could talk to Putin in the near future, but did not give specific dates.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi previously said that Trump could play a decisive role in ending the war with Russia and help stop Putin.
