“In any case, I can say that this is a correct and necessary incident for Ukraine and for our position, which we will use in our interests. This is interesting and necessary information that we can get from them. Plus, the very fact of confirmation of participation from direct participants from the territory of North Korea is also a very necessary fact for us,” Yerin said.
According to him, Ukraine was preparing to work with the North Korean military and now specialists who know the peculiarities of North Korea are working with the prisoners.

“The participation of military personnel of this country was already known for a long time and was announced by the Main Directorate of Intelligence. Believe me: we were preparing. And not only us, but all relevant services involved in this process were preparing for such events. And, accordingly, they are absolutely ready within the limits defined by the legislation of Ukraine,” said the representative of the HUR.
Currently, as Yerin reported, Ukrainian intelligence is studying the question of whether the DPRK will continue to supply its soldiers to Russia to participate in hostilities. Currently, there is no information that would indicate the use of these troops on the territory of Ukraine.
Yerin also talked about how the participation of these soldiers affects the fighting in Kurshchyna:
“The very fact of their presence is already a factor that affects, even if it is not critical and not decisive, the course of the war. Their main task is, as a rule, participation in assault actions or other operations. As a rule, they are used as part of the marine corps, airborne forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. And they are, first of all, conventional cannon fodder. However, among them there are various specialists who deal with various issues, but in general it is, relatively speaking, the infantry.”

On Saturday, January 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published footage of the interrogation of two soldiers from the DPRK, who were allegedly captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. On January 12, in an evening address, Zelenskyi said that Kyiv is ready to hand over captured North Korean soldiers to the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, if he organizes their exchange for Ukrainian soldiers who are in Russian captivity.
According to Western intelligence, about 10,000 troops from the DPRK could have arrived in Russia to participate in the war. Their losses are estimated at hundreds and even thousands of people, but there is no independent confirmation of these figures. Zelensky, in particular, claims that “Russian and other soldiers from the DPRK usually finish off the wounded so that there is no evidence of North Korea’s participation in the war against Ukraine.”
Moscow and Pyongyang did not confirm, but did not directly deny the participation of North Korean servicemen in the battles against Ukraine.
