Verstappen became a four-time Formula 1 champion

The Dutch driver of the Red Bull team, Max Verstappen, prematurely won the title of Formula 1 champion of the 2024 season.

The Dutchman finished fifth at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, ahead of his McLaren rival Lando Norris, giving him enough points to secure the title this season.

Verstappen became the fifth driver in the history of F-1 to win 4 consecutive titles after (Juan-Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton). He also became the second youngest owner of this achievement after another Red Bull champion, Vettel, 26 years for the German driver against 27 for Verstappen.

In addition, the Dutch pilot equaled the number of titles with Alain Prost and the aforementioned Sebastian Vettel. Verstappen is now ahead of Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart, who each have 3 championship titles.

Currently, only Juan-Manuel Fangio (5), Lewis Hamilton (7) and Michael Schumacher (7) have more Formula 1 seasons won than the Dutchman.

Max Verstappen could also become the first driver since 1983 since Nelson Piquet to win a championship with a team that is not first or second in the Constructors’ Cup (Red Bull is currently third, two stages behind McLaren and Ferrari).
