Despite the fact that in the future the trial was to be conducted in the absence of the accused (in absentia), the latter was given the opportunity to participate in court sessions via video conference, give testimony and even speak in court debates and have the last word, noted the SAP.
On October 16, during a court hearing, Odarchenko stated that he left Ukraine due to a “threat to life and health.” Also, when asked by the prosecutor whether he offered an illegal benefit to the former head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem, the deputy admitted that he did.
The investigation into Odarchenko has been ongoing since November 2023. At that time, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine announced that a deputy had been exposed for trying to bribe a top official with bitcoins.
During one of the court hearings, Odarchenko denied that he had given a bribe to the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure, Mustafa Nayem. He admitted contacts with Nayem, but said that he allegedly asked to teach him how to use cryptocurrency. In addition, the deputy stated that the case against him may be evidence of “political or some other persecution.”
