US President Joe Biden on November 7 addressed the American people with the first public statement after the victory of the Republican Donald Trump in the presidential elections in the United States on November 5.

According to the US president, the election proved the integrity of the US electoral system.

Biden said that he congratulated Trump on his election victory and emphasized that a peaceful and orderly transfer of power, which will take place on January 20, is the basis of democracy. In 2020, Trump refused to admit that he had lost the election, and before this year’s election, he made baseless claims of vote fraud.

“We accept the choice made by the country. You can’t love your country only when you win, you can’t love your neighbor only when you agree with him,” Biden emphasized.

According to the president, the American electoral system is honest, fair and transparent, and can be trusted. “Failures are inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable,” Biden said.

He also urged Americans to reduce political tension after Donald Trump’s election victory.

“I hope that, regardless of who you voted for, we can see each other not as adversaries, but as compatriots. We need to lower the degree,” Biden said in an address to the nation from the White House.

Republican Donald Trump won more than 270 Electoral College votes (295 – according to the latest data), which ensures his victory in the US presidential elections held on November 5. His opponent, Democratic representative Kamala Harris, has 226 votes.

Even before the counting of votes was completed, a number of world leaders, including the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, congratulated Trump on his election victory.

The Kremlin, meanwhile, said it did not know whether Russian leader Vladimir Putin planned to congratulate Trump on his election victory, but reminded that the United States is an unfriendly country for Russia.

Trump, 78, will become the oldest president to be inaugurated, only the second president to serve more than one consecutive term, and the first incoming president to face criminal charges.
