At the same time, Russia continued to send more deported ones, which could testify to a purposeful Russian operation, the Ukrainian Office said.

The Foreign Ministry noted that there are 96 citizens of Ukraine in the buffer zone.

“Our state is ready to take our people directly, not bypassing through Georgia and Moldova. As of now, we state that the Russian Federation ignores this call, which also testifies to the conscious desire of Moscow to create a humanitarian crisis on the Russian-Georgian border,”-emphasized the Ukrainian foreign policy.

On Wednesday, on August 5, the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia received an appeal from five citizens of Ukraine to Dariardi checkpoint on the beginning of an indefinite hunger strike demanding to allow them to cross the border of Georgia.

Other citizens who are at this checkpoint are also involved in the hunger strike.

After receiving information on the start of the hunger strike, the Consuls of Ukraine in Georgia went to the border for a meeting with citizens of Ukraine at the checkpoint and appealed to the Georgian side with a request for urgent and unobstructed access.

The consuls are permanent connection with the citizens of Ukraine who are at the Dariardi checkpoint, including those who have declared a hunger strike.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the majority of Ukrainian citizens whom the Russian Federation deported to the border with Georgia are people who have previously been criminally liable. Among them are both those who served their sentences in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and were forcibly transferred to the territory of the Russian Federation and citizens of Ukraine who were in the territory of the Russian Federation and were convicted of crimes committed there.

In order to regulate the humanitarian aspects of the stay of Ukrainians in the buffer zone of the Georgian border, the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia actively works with the Georgian side, involving the representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UNCC and International Organization of Migration in Georgia in this process.

Prehistory:

  • Human rights initiatives and media are written about the problem of the problems stuck on the border of the Russian Federation and Georgia of deported citizens of Ukraine.
  • According to experts and human rights defenders themselves, they have to expect repatriation decisions in difficult conditions – without adequate access to medical care and nutrition and without sufficient sleeping places.
  • At the end of June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the problem of such citizens of Ukraine and working on their return.
  • Recently, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the process of returning to Ukraine Ukrainians-prisoners who found themselves in the Russian Federation and then were deported by Moscow, is gradually happening, but is not easy due to the status of these persons and the need for numerous approvals.
