This additional aid, which involves the transfer of weapons from Pentagon warehouses, is estimated at $1.25 billion.

This package and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) package worth $1.22 billion were announced by US President Joe Biden on December 30.

As Blinken said, the $1.25 billion military aid package for Ukraine includes:

  • ammunition for anti-aircraft systems (c-UAS);
  • ammunition for air defense;
  • ammunition for HIMARS missile systems;
  • 155-mm and 105-mm caliber artillery ammunition;
  • air-to-ground ammunition;
  • anti-tank systems Javelin and Swedish AT-4;
  • missiles with a tube launch, optical guidance and TOW wire tracking;
  • ammunition for crew-served weapons and fragmentation grenades;
  • equipment and ammunition for detonation;
  • means of communication, training, software, clothing and personal equipment;
  • spare parts;
  • auxiliary equipment;
  • education and transport.

“The United States and more than 50 countries have joined forces to provide Ukraine with the capabilities it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression,” the US Secretary of State added.

Prehistory:

  • The Pentagon suggests that the Biden administration is unlikely to spend all the remaining funds for armed support of Ukraine under the PDA program ($5.6 billion), which Congress allocated for sending weapons and other military aid to Ukraine.
  • And the WSJ newspaper wrote that the Biden administration will not have time to send military aid to Ukraine for all the funds approved by Congress before the end of its term of office in January 2025, and part of the relevant powers will pass to Donald Trump’s team.
  • The Pentagon says that they have reached the limit of weapons that they can send to Ukraine every month without harming their own combat capability, and they are also facing logistical problems in delivery.
