Despite the criticism, the Toronto film festival decided to show Russian propagandist Anastasia Trofimova’s scandalous film “Russians at War”, which was previously removed from the program due to public outrage and calls not to show the film, which whitewashes the Russian invaders fighting in Ukraine.

Prehistory:

• After loud criticism, the organizing committee of the festival canceled the first screenings of the film, citing security reasons, but stated that the film would still be shown later “when it is safe.”
• The Toronto police, however, said that the TIFF organizing committee’s decision to cancel screenings of the film was made entirely independently and “was not based on any recommendations from the Toronto police,” and that there were no known current threats to security at the festival.
• Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Yuliya Kovaliv expressed her regret that the festival did not admit its mistake in its statement about the cancellation of the screening.
• The Canadian media organization TVO (TV Ontario), through which funds were provided for the production of the tape, decided not to show it in the future after the publicity.
