The Security Service of Ukraine announces the detention of a “mole” of the Russian GRU, who was passing on plans for special operations of the Defense Forces in the rear to Moscow.

As the department’s press service reports, this detention took place with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi and the Commander of the SSO Oleksandr Trepak.

The SBU notes that the agent of Russian military intelligence turned out to be a lieutenant colonel, the commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces, who was recruited by the occupiers even before the start of a full-scale war.

According to the Ukrainian special services, it was remotely “activated” in the spring of 2024 and the task was defined: to transmit plans of combat operations of the Defense Forces behind enemy lines, primarily intelligence on sabotage and reconnaissance raids of Ukrainian special forces behind the front line in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimean directions.

“In order to carry out the enemy’s task, the “mole” used his official position, thanks to which he received information about the planned routes of movement of the soldiers of the Defense Forces, their weapons and “targets”. The occupiers planned to use this information to eliminate Ukrainian special forces on the front line or outside it – in the temporarily captured part of the territory in the south of Ukraine,” the message reads.

As a result of the special operation, the military counterintelligence of the SBU gradually documented the man’s crimes and detained him.

According to the investigation, the person involved was recruited by the military intelligence of the Russian Federation through his acquaintances in Russia, with whom he maintained contact.

The investigators of the Security Service informed him of the suspicion under part. 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The man is in custody.

According to the latest data from the Prosecutor General’s Office, law enforcement officers recorded 19,816 crimes against national security, of which 3,763 were opened under the article on treason.
