The law enters into the legal field terms “National memory”, “historical anti -Ukrainian propaganda”, “Crimes against the Ukrainian people” and “place of memory of the Ukrainian people” and more.
The term definition is also fixed “rashism” -a new kind of totalitarian ideology and practices that underlie the regime formed in the aggressor state and are based on the traditions of Russian chauvinism and imperialism, practices of the communist regime of the USSR and national socialism (Nazism).
The document envisages the adoption by the Government of the State Strategy for the preservation of national memory, the integration of this policy into education, culture, work of museums and authorities. In addition, it outlines the basic principles, tasks and directions of public policy in this area.
Memory, Ukrainian language and cultural heritage protection is enshrined as a component of national security.
The document also defines the legal status of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory as a central executive body.
Separate provisions were recognized by the state awards of Ukraine’s honors, introduced by the UNR and UHWR, which were presented to the fighters for independence in the twentieth century.
The law also provides for the purification of public space from the symbols of Russian and Soviet imperial policy and defines mechanisms that will not allow local authorities to sabotage this process.
