According to TA3 TV channel, the man was caught on theft in the store on January 30, after which the Bratislava police intervened. The Ukrainian died in the hospital the next day from the injury received during the detention.
The investigation into Lubomyr’s death began after an ambulance doctor who provided her husband reported suspicion of beating the Ukrainian special forces, says TA3.
According to the Slovak portal Aktuality, the cause of the conflict could be that Lubomir was homeless.
Currently, the Slovak police are considering several versions of the death of a citizen of Ukraine.
“Criminal proceedings have been opened in the case. Procedural actions are ongoing at this time, and therefore we cannot provide any additional information,”-said the investigation representative Andrea Dobryashov.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga reported on February 3 that “shocked by the tragic death of a citizen of Ukraine in Bratislava”.
“We cannot exclude ethnic enmity as one of the reasons for this crime. Our embassy has already established contact with Slovak police and the Ombudsman,” he added.
The minister stressed that Kyiv demands “impartial investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators.”
