Direct speech of the President of the European Commission: “In total, Ukraine needs 17 GW of power this winter… 80% of Ukrainian TPPs have been destroyed, and a third of HPPs. We will focus our recovery efforts on this, with the goal of restoring 2.5 GW of generation for this winter. This is approximately 15% of Ukraine’s needs.” .

According to von der Leyen, as a result of Russia’s systematic attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, approximately half of the entire generation was destroyed. In terms of scale, it is comparable to the energy systems of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia together.

She reminded that more than 10,000 generators and transformers have already been transferred to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism from various countries, and such assistance will continue to arrive.

“In Lithuania, the entire TPP is gradually being dismantled and transported to Ukraine “piece by piece” with our support, where it will be reassembled. This is a clear proof of the desire of the member states and the EU to support Ukraine,” Von der Leyen concluded.

Prehistory:

  • The EU ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, said that in order to support the shelled Ukrainian energy system this winter, the EU plans to increase the export of electricity to Ukraine, and is also preparing the supply of energy equipment.
  • According to her estimates, a difficult winter awaits Ukraine, but the situation will not be catastrophic.
