Details: The Polish Prime Minister stressed that the Eastern Shield, the primary Polish project, which is joining more and more EU countries, should be mentioned in the conclusions of the European Council as one of the priority.

Tusk stressed that he was “almost sure” that the “eastern shield” and the protection of the EU Eastern border have become priorities that no one is questioned. ”
“It also means financial and infrastructure support (from the EU),” he added.
The Polish Prime Minister also stated the need to consider the increase in the presence of European troops and NATO troops at the border with the Russian Federation and Belarus.
“In order to really offer safety guarantees to others, we must be safe. This is why the first thing we have to do in Europe is to fully protect our own borders – especially with Russia and Belarus,” Donald Tusk is convinced.
It is worth noting that the Eastern Shield project is not applying to Ukraine.
In a conversation with the correspondent of “European Truth”, the diplomat of one of the key countries of the European Union reported that “as of now the project includes only the EU states”, and the issue of possible adding to it Ukraine is not on the agenda now.
Recall that in January 2024, the Ministers of Defense of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania approved the creation of a common Baltic defense zone on the eastern border.
In November 2024, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the beginning of the construction of the Eastern Shield fortifications at the borders from the Russian Federation and Belarus.
Poland intends to complete the erection and strengthening of the wall at the border with Belarus by mid -2025.
