The EU can share Ukraine and Moldova on the way to membership

The European Union can separate the process of joining the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine because Hungary resists negotiating with Kiev, the European Commissioner for the Extension of Marta Kos said.

Details: According to the European Commissioner, it “cannot exclude the separation of” two countries on the way to EU membership in June, when there are several decisions to be made in Brussels.

She reminded that only Hungary is opposed to Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

The publication notes that Moldova and Ukraine were still moving together in the process of joining the EU and regarded as a tandem.

Last year, 27 EU Member States gave the green light to the beginning of negotiations with both candidate countries. However, no section of negotiations have been opened.

Negotiations with Ukraine were blocked by Hungary, creating a number of obstacles, in particular, demanding extended rights for the Hungarian minority.

Kos believes that there is even an opportunity that Moldova will become an EU member by the end of its mandate, in 2029.

She noted-if the EU does not have any new Member State during the current mandate of the European Commission, it will be considered a “failure”.

“Moldova is a truly exemplary student throughout the group. They really feel this historical moment,” the European Commissariat said.

She also regretted that Hungary politicizes Ukraine’s accession.

“Ukraine has done enough, I can say it from my own experience because it contributed to the dialogue between Hungary and Ukraine,” Kos said.

She added, Hungary has put forward many negotiation points, and Ukraine is ready to fulfill them all, but “for Hungary it is not enough.”

Budapest, meanwhile, organized an advisory survey on Ukraine’s accession to the EU-and Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban has already publicly voted against.
