“On the Kurakhiv direction, this city is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the enemy does not stop trying (capture the city – ed.)our military is engaged in active combat operations to hold positions. The situation is complicated by the significant superiority of the enemy in manpower. In this direction, the enemy carried out active assaults on the southeastern outskirts and, in particular, in the urban development in the southern part of the city of Kurakhove,” said Voloshyn.
He noted that “there is a concentration of enemy personnel reserves near the city.”
“There are considerable units of the enemy operating against us there: the 90th Tank Division, the 20th Motorized Rifle Division, the 5th and 110th Motorized Rifle Brigades. For the enemy in this direction, it is important to align the front line, regroup and withdraw some units for recovery, and then concentrate them for further offensive in this area. The same as in the Pokrovsky direction. That is, the enemy’s task is to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” said Voloshyn.
The day before, British intelligence said that Russian forces had made further advances south of Pokrovsk, a key logistics center in the Donetsk region.
Before that, the press service of the “Khortytsia” OTUV reported that the Russian military “improved the tactical position” in the Pokrovsky direction.
Since December 5, the DeepState project reports on the daily advance of the Russian army to the southwest of Pokrovsk.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said in a report on December 7 that Russia is unlikely to abandon plans to take Pokrovsk, despite record losses on the front.
According to analysts, Russian forces will try to bypass the city from the west in order to force the Defense Forces to withdraw from Pokrovsk and Myrnograd nearby without frontal assaults.
